“the ketchup on the omelette and さとう on the omelette”

 

「立ち飲みの店がたくさんあること」

 

この二つの共通点が何かわかりますか？

“the ketchup on the omelette and the sugar on the omelette”

“There are lots of standing bars ”

Can you guess what these two things have in common?

 

実は二つとも「日本に来て食文化で驚いたことは何ですか？」に対する学生の答えなんです。

一つ目はフランスからの学生。

二つ目は韓国からの学生の答えです。

In fact, these are both answers to the question “What surprised you about food culture when you came to Japan ?”

The first  one  is answered by a student from France.

The second one  is answered by a student from Korea.

 

意外なことに「日本に来て食文化で驚いたことは何ですか？」の質問に対して

「生魚」、「納豆」という答えはありませんでした。

Surprisingly for me,  no one answered “raw fish” or “natto”.

 

日本に興味がある世界中の学生にとっては、

「へへっ、『生魚』や『納豆』なんて日本に行く前から知ってるに決まってんじゃん」という感じなんだと思います。

しかし、「では、どんなことに驚きましたか？」の質問に答えられるのは、

実際に日本での生活を体験した人でないと答えられないかもしれません。

For students all over the world who are interested in Japan,

probably it’s like,   “Of course I knew about ‘raw fish’ and ‘natto’ before I go to Japan”.

However,  I guess  that only those who have actually lived in Japan can answer the question, “So what surprised you ?”.
